Mohs Micrographic Surgery
Mohs micrographic surgery is the best choice for most facial skin cancers. It is highly effective, and particularly suited to cancers located on critical areas of the face (especially nose, eyelids, lips, ears) or where previous treatments have not been successful. Mohs surgery offers the highest chance of a cure, whilst removing only the smallest amount of healthy tissue necessary.
Same day all-in-one service:
Removal of tumour
Histopathology analysis
Reconstruction
Highest chance of cure
Greater choice of reconstruction options
Often results in a smaller or less obvious scar
No anxious waiting for biopsy results
Avoid repeat procedures for tumour left behind
Avoid wide margins and excess tissue removal
Peace of mind

Mohs is the gold standard treatment for facial skin cancers
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and involves removing the tumour in stages, one layer at a time. Each layer is examined immediately under a microscope to ensure all cancer cells are removed. This precise approach allows for complete tumour removal and reconstruction of the wound during the same hospital visit, helping to preserve as much healthy skin as possible and potentially reducing scarring.
Dr Bray will take great care to ensure you are comfortable throughout the procedure, aiming to keep you pain-free or experiencing only minimal discomfort.

Standard surgery and other skin cancer treatments
For many skin cancers standard surgery is sufficient. For certain tumours other methods of 'margin-controlled surgery' may be a better choice (e.g. for lentigo maligna). Dr Bray can advise you on the best surgical treatment options. He can also advise you on any non-surgical treatment options and provide these as well.

Personalised care
Dr Bray will discuss the risks and benefits of each treatment with you before making a recommendation that is tailored to your particular problem and what is important to you. He can provide most treatments himself, but he will recommend another doctor if there is a better option for your problem. All the options will be discussed with you in as much detail as you want (including the option of not treating, if appropriate). Your opinion is encouraged when we plan your treatment together. Please read our information leaflet for more details of preparation and aftercare.
